Vending Food At Festivals - A Great Business Opportunity

There are many opportunities to set up and become a food vendor in a variety of locales instead of wandering as a street vendors and losing the exposure which you can achieve with vending food at fairs and festivals. You'll need to decide what kind of food to vend for your particular festival, create a unique booth display, and buy the right equipment. This is must to make you stand beyond the ordinary street vendors. You'll also need to learn about local laws and finally apply to many different festivals. You'll need a convincing application in order to become a food vendor.

Check out these tips to get a head start on your business today.

Serve It Up Right

One of the hardest parts of vending food is getting your first break at a festival or fair. You'll need to convince the organizers that you should be vending food at their event. There are a few things you can do to accomplish this goal. For starters, pick your food carefully. Maybe you have a specialty you'd like to serve up, but try to aim for a large target audience. For many organizers they want something that will stand out from the rest. Vegetarian or vegan options could be a good idea if this fits in with the demographic of the festival. Vending food that is ethnic could also be a hit, which makes you stand out from the crowd. Creating a successful pitch to organizers is important. Vending food out a unique booth will drive traffic, as well as to impress a festival organizer. Having interesting uniforms for your employees is one idea or any other themed ideas that you can create for your booth could work well. Stay away from music or anything noisy, which is usually a turn off for organizers.

All In Order

You'll need to do some research on the specific fair or festival you would like to set up at to know what paperwork you will need. You may need to get a license from a local authority for vending food, which could include a fee. You will have to present this in your food vendor application and you'll need to make sure you have all the right documentation. You should also find out about insurance requirements. Does the festival cover vendor insurance or will you need your own? These are all important questions to find out in advance. Ask about electricity availability for your booth, as well as how garbage disposal works. Each fair and festival will be slightly different when it comes down to the running of the operation. Make sure you ask all the right questions before you submit your application. You want to make sure that you've covered all your bases.

Making The Cut

Event organizer will take into consideration your food selection, references, and set up. If you haven't set up before, then create a mock-set up in your backyard to photograph your booth and equipment. You can present any references that you have from the restaurant industry or any other relevant qualifications if you are new to the festival scene. Make sure to always apply early. An early application is key to getting into the game. You have to remember that food vendors book spots at big festivals up to a year in advance. These are the regulars and you need to try to squeeze into one of the few spots they have available to new food vendors. To make the cut always emphasis that cleanliness is of the utmost importance to you and your business.

You may have to fill out many different food vendor application at first, but it will get easier as you accrue more experience and become more known in the food vendor community. Make sure you find out why you were turned down each time so you'll know how to improve your food vendor application. Stick with it even if you ear a lot of "no's" at first, you'll soon receive a positive response if you keep trying.

Connecticut State Scottish Festival in Goshen

Connecticut doesn't have an annual state fair as it participates yearly in the Eastern States Exposition which is made up of the six New England States, but that is another article. This article focuses on the Connecticut Scottish Festival held in the town of Goshen every October. Are you ready for some Scottish Games?

Visitors should be, since the festival organized each year by the St. Andrew's Society is focused on the celebration of Scottish culture and heritage. The Society uses money from the festival and other events to donate to charities here and in Scotland and provide scholarships to students looking to study Scottish Heritage. Come up to Goshen Fairgrounds and if you find you're lost listen for the sounds of the bagpipes perpetually playing during the fair. Learn about the heritage of Scottish Clans by visiting their tents at the fair. If you think you might have some Scottish ancestry head over the to the tent of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists to learn how you can trace your family roots.

Bagpipe playing is a competition here, deciding who can play the best pipes and probably play the longest without passing out! Celtic music is the theme at this festival. Visitors can find the stage packed with folksy singers and fast-paced drumming bands, both. Don't forget about the Dance Exhibition where visitors can get an up close look at the fancy footed dance that is unique to the Celtic culture.

On sale at the festival will be a range of Scottish foods, you just might find Haggish, though you may prefer the Bannocks (Scottish biscuits) or the Scotch Meat Pies if you happen to find a vender selling them at the year's fair you are attending. You can also find a range of items imported from Scotland. This may include cloth, clothing, ales, beers and cheeses.

Kites Festival - The Bristol and Niagara Kite Flying Festival Events

If you want to see a large kites festival, there are quite a number to choose from. At any time of the year it's not long before a major kite flying festival gets underway somewhere on the planet. In this short article I will introduce you to 2 big kite festivals that are held every year.

The Bristol Kite Festival

This English event is officially known as The Bristol International Festival of Kites and Air Creations. It's been running since the mid eighties, and it's probably the largest and most well known such festival in the Western world.

The following list is a general summary of what the kites festival at Bristol is all about.

  • 2 days of non-stop wind-driven flying, art and culture, both air-based and ground-based
  • a partnership between the festival and the Bristol Children's Hospital charity
  • a forum for international goodwill and showcasing the world's best in kiting
  • a platform for breaking world kiting records, such as 'the largest kite to fly'
  • an excuse for any member of the public to go out and fly their favorite kite as part of the festival
Keen to know some specifics? Here's some things that were planned for the 2007 festival...
  • Wallace & Gromit drawing attention to a hospital charity in a special angel kite show
  • large, spectacular sea-themed kites, including a 30 meter long multicolored manta ray
  • kite surfers demonstrating their extreme sport in the sea
  • traditional Japanese fighting kites engaged in aerial combat
  • more extreme sports - traction kites pulling buggies and land boards
  • kite-making workshops for children
  • flying the world's biggest kite, the size of an Olympic swimming pool!

The Niagara Kite Festival

Besides being big, this kites festival is really quite unique. This has a lot to do with its geographical location. Not only does the festival overlook an enormous waterfall system, but it actually spans 2 countries, the U.S. and Canada!

This next list tries to summarize most of what took place over the 4 days that the 2007 Niagara Kite Festival ran...

  • the flying of a very wide range of kites by hundreds of people
  • a kite arch tethered to the U.S. on one end, and to Canada on the other
  • a historical re-enactment of the first kite to cross the gorge
  • large wind-driven works of art that were anchored to the ground
  • international guests brought their kiting expertise
  • demonstrations of kite-powered sports
  • exhibitions of other kite-related activities
  • a great variety of street entertainment, not all kite-related
  • thousands of spectators, both locals and from around the world

Planning a Fall Festival in Children's Ministry

It is that time of year when many churches begin to think about Halloween alternatives to attract kids and parents to Christ instead of the evil traditions rooted in what seems to be a fun holiday for kids everywhere. Why not consider a Fall Festival? It is all the rage these days for churches who want to provide a fun environment where kids can still celebrate the season, but with a twist on the harvest.

Planning a Fall Festival can be anywhere from simple to quite Development. It depends on the style of your Church and personal belief system. One thing all the festivals have in common is that they celebrate the harvest abundant life that God has given us through His Son Jesus Christ. In fact, to call some churches, the harvest festival is held.

Activities for the festival falls often must include Carnival Games. Ask your community to donate only the bag of candy in the months of September and October pricesto win matches. I remember that candy is individually wrapped.

Silent auction or door prize is also celebrated a major success at the Autumn Festival. Donations for the price can be made with local businesses and individuals, and some churches will do a small budget for these items and go. Children and adults love to participate in the silent auction and door prizes.

Another favorite activity that kids and adults how to participate Cake Walk. These musicalChairs, and the winner receives a seat on the delicious homemade cakes from a table of selected items to take home the prize. Most churches expert cake, the baker more than happy to donate to the cause.

Instead of encouraging children to come in any costume, you can keep a Bible costume contest for different age groups. This gives children the opportunity to dress, but as a biblical figure, and are then entered into a contest to win a cool prize. Here even the prices can come with the same ease andDonations from businesses and individuals.

A competition cake is also a popular assessment on a case-festival. Select two or three people in your community, usually the pastor and one or two other elders, as the judge. They have the taste of each cake and decide who has the best pies from the oven. Then give the winner a tape for his ability to cook. The only condition for entering a cake for the assessment is that you have in the house. No Store Bought articles here!

As you can see, planning an eventFestival will take time to reflect on this. You need a planning committee. In some churches and the Children's Ministry Committee, the need to plan all the fun. Other churches have a Bible study or a Bible class to schedule events fun. It 'important that children are offered, including a lot of fun, without losing any part of the traditions of Halloween. In fact, their memories are in a church Fall Festival are much happier in their lives than ever. Imagine

Festival Fashion - What to Wear at a Music Festival

The summer months in Britain offer a deluge of music festivals, which are often the saving grace for anyone who can't find the time or money to organise a trip abroad.

The music - and the general campsite experience - will always deliver the opportunity for a great time; but small details, such as wearing unsuitable clothing, can often put a blot on an otherwise enjoyable occasion. A little planning beforehand should ensure that everything runs smoothly, allowing you to fully embrace the festival spirit.

Checking a weather forecast before packing is always advisable. If it's going to be a weekend of searing heat you'll have no use for a stack of jumpers, while if it's going to be wet the whole time there may be no real need for flip-flops or beach shorts. Packing light is advisable but taking more underwear and socks than you think you'll need is a good idea, especially if rain is forecast.

Suitable footwear is also vital. Most likely, you're going to be spending all day in the same pair, so buying new shoes that haven't been broken in yet isn't recommended. Obviously, if you're expecting a lot of rain and mud, wellies are the logical choice.

Looking your best is always important, even at a festival. If you're camping, you won't have full length mirrors to check out your style and being able to make a quick getaway from the campsite to the stage is important if you want a good spot at the front. That means having a pre-planned look - either something you've worn before or something you've bought specially - can give you a head start. With the constant threat of muddy, slippery fields doubled with the inevitable liquids being drank - and thrown - by members of the crowd, your clothes are always at risk. Wearing dark or colourful clothes will help hide any stains that you pick up along the way.

Wearing a hat can help protect you from wet projectiles in the crowd and can also shield you from the elements; whether it's rain or the sun beating down on you, standing outside all day can leave you open to attack. If hot weather is predicted, it's always best to also wear suntan lotion and sunglasses. Sporting sunburn is not only uncomfortable, it can also dangerous to your health.

If it is sunny, a T-shirt and a pair of shorts should suffice; but at colder - or wetter - times, wearing additional clothing is required. A light, waterproof jacket is useful but if you forget one then most campsites will sell ponchos. Combat trousers have many pockets, which is handy for storing your festival essentials while taking a jumper to wear at night makes the campsite a bit more comfortable.

Wearing the right festival wear can often make a big difference to your enjoyment of an event; whether that involves swimming in mud, or baking in the sunshine.
